{"id":768,"date":"2015-07-22T11:02:53","date_gmt":"2015-07-22T18:02:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shakennotstirred.us\/?p=768"},"modified":"2015-07-22T11:02:53","modified_gmt":"2015-07-22T18:02:53","slug":"bar-review-ocean-prime-philadelphia-pa-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/shakennotstirred.us\/?p=768","title":{"rendered":"Bar Review: Ocean Prime, Philadelphia, PA &#8211; Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was recently in Philadelphia and decided to eat at one of my local favorites, Ocean Prime.\u00a0 I have in the past reviewed their Martini and given them my coveted two Martini rating.\u00a0 See\u00a0 &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/shakennotstirred.us\/?p=57\">Bar Review: Ocean Prime<\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0\u00a0 But that was before I started adding a rating for Gin selection.\u00a0 So I took a few notes this time on their Gin selections.<\/p>\n<p>First of all I&#8217;m happy to say that I have no reason to second guess my two Martini rating given previously.\u00a0 My Martini&#8217;s this time were excellent, as before.\u00a0 I also had the opportunity to sample a few new and unusual Gins.<\/p>\n<p>The first of these was Uncle Vic&#8217;s of Sonoma CA.\u00a0 This was very heavy on the\u00a0 lemon with elements of pine and cardamon(?). \u00a0 Again, I probably wouldn&#8217;t use it in a martini, but I think it might work well in a Gin &amp; Tonic.<\/p>\n<p>The second is Barr Hill from Vermont.\u00a0 This gin is flavored with two, yes only two, elements; Juniper, of course, and honey.\u00a0 As a consequence It is a very sweet gin.\u00a0 Not really to my liking, certainly not as a martini.\u00a0 Perhaps as an after dinner aperitif?<\/p>\n<p>I was also given a quick sample of Tanqueray Old Tom.\u00a0 This is a limited release edition in the historical &#8220;Old Tom&#8221; style. \u00a0 Tastewise this is much more subdued than its namesake, almost subtle but with a hint of sweetness.\u00a0\u00a0 I think this will appeal to a lot of people and is definitely worth a sampling.<\/p>\n<p>Because of these three very interesting gins, Ocean Prime gets an &#8220;A&#8221; for selection.\u00a0 Here are the gins they carry:<br \/>\nBombay, Bombay Sapphire, Bombay Sapphire East<br \/>\nTanqueray, Tanqueray 10, Tanqueray Rangpur, Tanqueray Old Tom<br \/>\nHendrick&#8217;s, Bluecoat, Nolet&#8217;s,<br \/>\nBarr Hill, Uncle Vic&#8217;s<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was recently in Philadelphia and decided to eat at one of my local favorites, Ocean Prime.\u00a0 I have in the past reviewed their Martini and given them my coveted two Martini rating.\u00a0 See\u00a0 &#8220;Bar Review: Ocean Prime&#8220;.\u00a0\u00a0 But that &hellip; <a class=\"more-link\" href=\"http:\/\/shakennotstirred.us\/?p=768\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0},"categories":[37,12],"tags":[2,38,9],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_likes_enabled":false,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":57,"url":"http:\/\/shakennotstirred.us\/?p=57","url_meta":{"origin":768,"position":0},"title":"First Bar Review: Ocean Prime","author":"wlmoon58","date":"January 31, 2015","format":false,"excerpt":"I have always hoped to add bar and restaurant reviews to this blog. \u00a0I didn't intend to start so soon but a recent martini prompts me to start sooner than I expected.
