{"id":970,"date":"2015-09-27T17:56:39","date_gmt":"2015-09-28T00:56:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shakennotstirred.us\/?p=970"},"modified":"2015-09-27T17:57:35","modified_gmt":"2015-09-28T00:57:35","slug":"alcohol-diet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/shakennotstirred.us\/?p=970","title":{"rendered":"Alcohol Diet!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alcohol diet?\u00a0 Is that a real thing?\u00a0 Well, no, not really.\u00a0 But it offers a starting point to think about our diet, and Martini, choices.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re like most of us you&#8217;re probably &#8216;counting&#8217; calories in one form or another.\u00a0 Not necessarily keeping a daily diary of everything you eat, but most of us are aware that it takes 24 minutes of brisk walking to burn off the calories in one can of coke. \u00a0 And an hour and 10 minutes to burn off the calories in one slice of pizza and a can of coke.<\/p>\n<p>Each of us has our own idea of weight, exercise, and food balance. And we all make choices.\u00a0 That&#8217;s true in our choices for adult beverages.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"_Tgc _y9e\">The standard 1.5 oz serving of 80-proof alcohol has 96 calories before you add any mixers.<\/span>\u00a0 Bombay Sapphire is 97 proof and has 114 calories.\u00a0\u00a0 So a dry martini would have approximately 100 calories, depending on Gin, number of olives (5 calories each, if that&#8217;s your choice), and whether its &#8216;wet&#8217; or &#8216;dry&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Comparing to other cocktails:\u00a0 Gin &amp; Tonic 187, Mai Tai 306, Pina Colada 320, Margarita 327, Rum &amp; Coke 361, Mudslide 820<\/p>\n<p>And how many calories in desert?\u00a0 Chocolate Cake <em>without frosting<\/em>: about 352 , 1\/2 cup Ice Cream 137 , 1\/2 cup Chocolate Mousse 454 , and Creme Brulee 210.<\/p>\n<p>So if you&#8217;re counting calories which would you pick?\u00a0 Cake or Martini?\u00a0 My choice is clear; I haven&#8217;t had dessert in a long long time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The calorie numbers above are taken from various internet sources and are <strong><em>representative <\/em><\/strong>and for comparison purposes &amp; humor<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ALWAYS Drink responsibly<\/strong>.<br \/>\nWe do NOT endorse excessive alcohol consumption.<br \/>\nKnow the law, know your limits: drink to the lesser of the two.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alcohol diet?\u00a0 Is that a real thing?\u00a0 Well, no, not really.\u00a0 But it offers a starting point to think about our diet, and Martini, choices.
